Pembridge Tapestries

11 August

Appletons have just visited the Pembridge Tapestries in Herefordshire and urge that you do too! We were made so welcome by Gill Smith. It is a wonderful example of a community coming together to produce the interesting and diverse history of their unique village from Domesday to the present century. As well as details from history elements of rural life and seasonal imagery have been incorporated into each of the 12 tapestries stitched in Appletons wool. Some delightful local stories have been unearthed to weave around each of the subjects. When the stitchers met for the first time some had never embroidered before. But they persevered! The tapestries are displayed in Pembridge’s amazing medieval church of St. Mary the Virgin. The project appears under Public Work on our website.
