David Smith

A British textile artist and one of our creative partners, David brings a distinctive design-led perspective to contemporary tapestry and needlepoint. With a background in three-dimensional design and a lifelong connection to the Arts and Crafts movement, his work is shaped by a deep understanding of form, structure and colour. After a long career as a designer and maker of handmade furniture, David turned to tapestry as a new creative chapter, combining traditional hand stitching with digitally developed designs. Through David Smith Tapestry, he creates thoughtfully considered kits that emphasise light, shade and colour gradients, translating architectural and sculptural ideas into striking textile artworks. His designs are contemporary yet timeless, carefully balancing visual depth with an absorbing, rewarding stitching experience.
